The Automotive Technology AAS degree prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain all types of automobiles and light trucks. Through classroom instruction and hands-on training, you will learn how to diagnose, service and repair brake systems, electrical systems, engine performance, engine repair, suspension and steering, automatic and manual transmissions and drive trains, and heating and air condition systems.

Graduates of this pathway will be required to take professional licensure exams, which correspond to certain programs of study, and to enter careers as entry-level technicians in the transportation industry.

Students who complete the Automotive Technology AAS degree are halfway to earning a bachelor’ degree in Automotive Technology at SIUC. The students will have earned 55 of the 129 semester hours of credit required for the degree.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Demonstrates ability to perform as an entry level Automotive Technician using the latest service technology and skills.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to pass the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exams.
