Function:
Support College needs by researching, preparing, and submitting compelling proposals to external funding sources that that help achieve College goals. Develop and nurture cooperative working relationships with funding entities. Work with units across the College to assess needs, develop strategies for applications, and provide assistance to faculty and staff.
Organizational Relationship:
Development and Grant Coordinator reports to the Vice President of Administrative Services, who reports to the President of the College.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelors degree in related field
- Ability to translate College priorities into proposals or donor solicitations that have a high probability of external funding
- Knowledge of grant and proposal writing, research methods, and funding sources
- Experience that demonstrates ability to organize time, give attention to detail, execute careful planning and follow-up, and innovate
- High level of professionalism, collaboration talents, and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the College, motivate faculty and staff to pursue funding opportunities, and develop effective external networks
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to produce quality documents and presentations
- Ability to collect information communication, questioning, and interviewing techniques.
- Flexibility, including willingness to learn new skills and assume additional responsibilities
Preferred:
- Masters degree in related field
- 3 years of experience in successful private, corporate, or government grant applications
Essential Functions:
- Source and research funding opportunities including new and non-traditional sources of funds
- Work with units across College to assess needs, develop strategies for applications, and provide assistance to faculty and staff
- Prepare components of funding submissions, ensuring that the proposal is formatted, packaged, and submitted in accordance with funding agency requirements
- Ensure narratives are accurate and convey quantitative and qualitative impact and outcomes
- Provide funding opportunity information to faculty and staff including strategies for submission, timelines, and other pertinent material
- Develop and nurture relationships with representatives from other colleges, school districts, higher education organizations, professional associations, Illinois Community College Board, legislators, corporate and private foundations, etc.
- Monitor after award to ensure administrative policies, procedures, and agency requirements are followed to maintain conformity to the funded application; coordinate financial oversight issues with the Grant Accountant
- Maintain a master calendar of funding and prospects and a reference library for all associated files and correspondence including opportunities not pursued, submissions, awards, statistical information, funding agency requirements, investigator/review profiles, and other pertinent material
- Maintain current knowledge of grant policies, regulations, and procedures; disseminate and present changes to appropriate personnel and advise on the implementation of changes
Other Functions:
- Makes necessary presentations to College faculty and staff; local, state or federal officials concerning College priorities and resource development strategies
- Serve on committees, attend professional meetings, and provide consultative services within the College as necessary.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Supervision:
This position may manage the work of consultants or others. Additionally, this position leads the work of staff outside the department who are assigned to a specific application.
Supervisory Controls:
This position will work closely with the Director of Institutional Research and Planning, Grant Accountant, and other College employees. Employee is expected to work independently and with a minimum amount of supervision.

Personal Relationships:
Employee has daily contact with College employees and frequent contact with external agencies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Works in a standard office environment with many deadlines. Must be able to be mobile and stationary throughout the workday, have the ability to transport 20 pounds and be able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office. Occasional travel to education centers, professional development sites, or other locations. Minimal travel out-of-district is required. Occasional evening and weekend hours.
