Once your classes have started, create a schedule that fits into your everyday routine.
By having your class syllabus in your calendar, you know when things are due and what homework needs to be done when.
Squeezing time in to do homework and get assignments done can be difficult, but not impossible.
Maximizing your time can be a crucial tool to being productive.
Once you've gotten used to your class, work, and study schedule, STICK TO IT!
Managing Your Skills
You know yourself best.
The skills were going to go over today will all depend on how YOU work. You know your schedule, you know when's a good time to study, you know what distracts you and what doesn't.
Example- some people can listen to music while studying and not get distracted at all, but that's not the case for everyone. Some like complete silence, others don't mind a crowded room, etc.
Putting Materials Together
Print out class syllabi.
Free printing at the ACE
Highlight important parts- i.e., Tests, papers, quizzes, etc.
Due Dates
Put due dates in your calendar whether on your phone or a physical copy.
Before the first class, look through what is on Canvas and familiarize yourself with the material. When the professor goes over the syllabus in class you won't be confused or get lost.
Studying
Just like the body needs time to get used to a workout routine, so does your brain need to get used to time studying every week.
Think of studying like it's a class, you have a set time to do it.
Reward yourself after a good study session. If you study for 1 hour, reward yourself with time on your phone or watching an episode of TV. This will help you build self-control, and you won't get burnt out as quickly.
Note Taking
Type or hand write notes in class.
Take the first few classes to figure out which works best for you.
Always put the title of the class period and date of class. This will make it easy to go back and find information.
Pre-print out slides or have them up on your laptop during class so you can follow along, and you wont miss anything.
Ask your professor questions, for topics to be repeated, or for clarification.
Note Taking - Textbook
In textbooks look for key words.
Bolded, Italicized, Chapter/Paragraph Titles
This can make intimidating amounts of reading more manageable.
Keeping a sheet of paper in the textbook as a bookmark, use it to write down key words as you read, then have it on hand during class.
Preparing for Tests
Use what you have to your advantage:
Previous tests/quizzes, your notes, textbook, slides, handouts, study guide
