The Kaskaskia College Fitness Center is a state of the art facility that meets the needs of Kaskaskia’s growing student population as well as provides an excellent training facility for our student athletes. With more and more of our students developing a healthier lifestyle, having a 21st century fitness center allows them to strengthen their minds and bodies.
The center is located on the south side of the gymnasium, the Kaskaskia College Fitness Center encompasses 13,000 square feet, housing restrooms, locker rooms, showers, men’s and women’s saunas, circuit training, cardiovascular equipment, weight training area, indoor track, two multi-purpose rooms, athletic training room and office space. The center also houses the Kaskaskia College Athletics Hall of Fame honoring past athletes and teams.

Rules and Guidelines
FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THE RULES CAN RESULT IN LOST OF PRIVILEGE TO THE FITNESS CENTER
All individuals that use the Fitness Center are required to sign in at the Fitness Center Desk.
Attire and Footwear
1. Appropriate athletic footwear must be worn whenever using the Fitness Center. Proper footwear is necessary to protect individuals, as well as the facility.
2. Participants must wear appropriate exercise attire: T-Shirts, warm-up suits, sweat suits, or aerobics attire. Street clothing can be dangerous and confining when exercising and is not allowed to be worn during exercise activities except on the jogging track. Street shoes are not permitted on the jogging track. Shirts and pants with buttons (other than rubber), metal zippers, studs, or belt loops are considered street wear and are only permitted on the jogging track. These items tend to accelerate and tear of exercise equipment and could pose a risk of injury.
3. A shirt or tank top is required for participants to use all exercise machines and free weight area. A shirt reduces skin contact with the benches and reduces the spread of body oils and germs, when deteriorate the equipment. Please carry a towel and wipe off the equipment seats and backs after each use, or use gym wipes supplied.
4. Clothing and bags are to be stored in the locker rooms.
1. Recommended footwear for the track includes jogging shoes, gym shoes, cross trainers, athletic walking shoes and track shoes without spikes. Street shoes are not permitted.
2. Street clothing and casual attire will be allowed on the track. It is our belief that this will not be hazardous to any equipment or participants.
3. Running direction is patterned to help reduce leg stress associated with running tight turns. Users help promote safe running conditions by cooperating and going the posted direction for that day. The daily direction is indicated on the sign at the entrance of the indoor track.
4. Do not spit on floors, walls or in the water fountains.
5. Sixteen laps equal approximately one mile.
6. Baby strollers are not permitted.

e. When passing, indicate doing so by saying “Passing”.
f. Follow the daily designated walking/running direction for safety.
g. Track should not be used as spectator viewing area for areas below.
1. Workout attire must be worn to use the Cardio and Weight rooms. Recommended attire includes: sweat suits or shorts, athletic shoes, and a non-mesh t-shirt or top. Tank tops, partial shirts or torn shirts are not permitted. Weight gloves are recommended when using free weights. Open-toed shoes and chalk are strictly prohibited.
2. Users not familiar with the operation of the exercise machines should seek assistance from the Fitness Center Attendant.
3. The machines and weights should be used with care. Dropping plates, dumbbells, and weight stacks can cause injury, equipment damage, and facility damage.
4. Users should be courteous to others by limiting the length of their workouts at a single station and by observing posted time limits when others are waiting.
5. If weights, pulleys or other parts become jammed, users should not attempt to free them with out staff assistance. Report the problem to the Fitness Center Attendant.
6. Users should always inspect equipment for loose, frayed or worn parts before using. If in doubt, do not use the equipment and report the problem to the Fitness Center Attendant.
7. To reduce the chance of injury, users should keep head and limbs clear of weights and moving parts at all times.
8. All equipment is to be returned to storage locations after use (i.e. weights must be restacked).
9. Equipment is to remain in the room, at its appropriate location.
10. Weights are not be propped against the walls, pillars, mirrors due to the risk of damage or injury.
11. Personal belongings may not be left or stored in free weight, track, cardio or circuit, multi-purpose areas. Please use the locker rooms.
12. Spotters required at all stations in the free-weight area. The staff is usually available to offer assistance.
13. Participants should use extreme caution in moving equipment and weights to avoid potential injury to themselves or others. (NO HEADPHONE IN FREE WEIGHT AREA)
14. Abuse of the equipment will not be tolerated; loss of privileges will occur if it becomes a problem.

17. All concerns and maintenance needs should be reported to the Fitness Center Attendant.
18. There is a 30-minute limit for using cardiovascular equipment when others are waiting.
19. At no time are persons under the age of 13 permitted in the Fitness Center.
20. Food is not allowed. Water bottles may be used if they are made of a non-breakable material and contain only water.
1. All types of tobacco use are prohibited. The Fitness Center is a smoke free environment.
2. Possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the Fitness Center.
3. Food and Drink may not be brought in to the Fitness Center, except during designated functions. Water bottles may be used if they are made of non-breakable material and contain only water.
4. Please help keep the facility neat and appealing to all users by properly disposing of litter.
5. Use of the facility while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is prohibited.
Racquetball and Walleyball Courts
1. Safety goggles are required.
2. Racquetball racquets that have bumper guards and wrist ropes/straps are required.
3. Court shoes are required. Any athletic shoes that mark the floor or black soled shoes are prohibited.
4. Shirts must be worn at all times.
5. Multi-Purpose Room may be reserved up to 1 week in advance at the Fitness Center Desk or by calling (618) 545-3162.
6. Reservation can be for only 2 hours in a given day by the same party.
7. Your name and phone number will be requested at the time of reservation so we may contact you for scheduling changes and conflicts.
8. All courts reservations not claimed by 10 minutes after the hour are forfeited and may be claimed by an eligible user.
9. If you have reserved the room and someone else is using it and will not relinquish it to you or if some is abusing the sign up procedure in any way, contact the Fitness Center Desk employee. He or she will assist you in addressing the situation

2. The Fitness Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
3. KC ID cards not claimed within 24 hours will be sent to Security Desk located in HB at the front of the college.
1. If an injury occurs, please contact the Fitness Center Desk immediately.
2. If you are bleeding prior to, or begin to bleed during any activity, stop the bleeding and cover the afflicted area with a bandage prior to returning to the activity. A First-aid kit is available at Fitness Center Desk. Please inform a staff member if blood is on equipment or other facility surfaces.
3. The college and its staff are not responsible for injuries. All participants are financially responsible for all expenses related to injuries and emergency care, including medical care, ambulance and other cost. Medical insurance is strongly recommended for all participants.
1. Please shower before entering sauna.
2. Bathing suits or shorts/shirt required.
3. Allow yourself 5 minutes after exercising to cool down before entering.
4. No shaving, loofahs, lotion or creams of any kind allowed.
5. No food or drink allowed.
6. No drying of personal items allowed.
7. Do not leave papers or magazines in Sauna.
8. Do not pour water on heating units.
9. The Sauna temperature should not exceed 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
10. Please limit your session to a maximum of 10 minutes.
11. Those with medical conditions such as high blood pressure, respiratory problem and those who are pregnant should avoid exposure to heat.
12. High temperature could be dangerous to your health. We recommend that you consult a physician before using the Sauna.
13. Use by persons under 18 years of age is prohibited.
14. Tampering with Sauna equipment will result in removal and suspension from center.
1. Lockers are available for users; you will need to provide your own lock. Lockers are for daily use only; contents may not be left overnight.
2. KC is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Assistance will be provided in filing a theft report with the proper authorities. Do not bring valuables to the facility. Always use a lock, even when in the shower. The Fitness Center Attendants are not allowed to hold valuables for users. Clothing and bags are to be stored in the locker rooms.
