This course examines the family-centered approach to the care of mothers and newborns. Content will be presented on the care of women through their pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum period with related care of the newborn. Disease condition of newborns and the appropriate nursing intervention will be studied. Women's health issues including gynecological problems, rape, and abuse will be addressed. Students will be given the opportunity in the clinical setting to care for obstetrical patients, newborns, and women with various gynecological problems. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" in all first semester PRNU courses, PRNU 159, PRNU 158, PSYH 100, or with approval of instructor or Academic Dean
