This course is offered for the currently licensed EMT or EMT-P as a bridge for admission into the beginning level of the Associate Degree Nursing Program or the Licensed Practical Nursing Program. Students will learn to perform basic nursing skills and identify the ongoing basic nursing care needs of patients in non-emergent care environments. This course will supplement previously mastered EMT skills. Units of instruction include bathing, feeding, body mechanics, positioning, patient transfer using assistive devices, specimen collection, and cognitive dysfunction. Prerequisite: Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic.
