The Centralia Area Historical Museum and Kaskaskia College will host Mr. Rocky Maffit from Champaign with a program entitled “A Life of Rhythm” at the Monthly Lecture Series on Monday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m.
We all live in rhythm. It is in us and all around us. Life is impossible without it. In this program the presenter draws on body percussion, voice and an amazing variety of World Percussion instruments to draw out the "inner drummer" that lives in us all. From the Angklung (tuned bamboo rattles from Thailand) and the Ocean Drum (U.S.) to the Wind Gong (China), this show blends cultural history, world geography, percussion, song and fun to absorb and engage the audience in a world of rhythm and beauty. The show employs a large amount of audience participation and is extremely child friendly.
The Illinois Humanities Council is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Illinois General Assembly through the Illinois Arts Council as well as by contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations. Refreshments will be served.
