Dual Credit

DUAL CREDIT is a partnership between Kaskaskia College and the participating district high schools in Bond, Clinton, Fayette, Marion and Washington Counties that allows high school students the opportunity to get a head start on their college education.

WHY ENROLL IN DUAL CREDIT COURSES:
  • Courses are free; reducing the cost of college for families.
  • Students can visualize themselves as college material.
  • Experience the rigor of college courses in a familiar environment.
  • Accelerate progress toward degree completion and graduate early.
  • Reduce course load and relieve some of the pressure and stress in first year of college.
  • Earn college credit and high school credit simultaneously.
Courses are typically taught at the high schools by high school instructors who have been approved by KC faculty and administration and recommended by the high school administration.

Grades received in dual credit courses generate an official college transcript and GPA at Kaskaskia College. If a student wishes to withdraw or drop from a college course, they should speak with their teacher or high school guidance counselor.

For students wishing to transfer their credits to another college/university, they must request to have their transcripts transferred upon the completion of their senior year. For instructions on requesting transcripts visit the Admissions Transcripts page. College credits transfer to most state and out-of-state colleges/universities; however, it is strongly recommended that students work with each specific college.

To learn more about dual credit opportunities, please call your high school guidance counselor or Cheryl Boehne, Director of Admissions, Registration, and Dual Credit at 618.545.3184 or cboehne@kaskaskia.edu.
