New Veterans Tribute Quilt Unveiled
Members of the Jim Beasley Veterans Tribute joined with the Lakeside Quilters on Thursday, December 22 to unveil the new quilt that will be raffled off, with proceeds to benefit the Tribute located on the main campus of Kaskaskia College. “Bountiful Stars” is the fourth quilt the Lakeside Quilters have prepared for the Tribute, and the largest at 100” x 100”, taking hundreds of hours to complete with members cutting out the pattern, laying the blocks and stitching it all together. “It was a labor of love,” noted quilter Lael Snyder. Fellow quilter Linda Clevenger discovered the pattern and felt it was perfect for their Tribute quilt. “It was the color, gold and royal blue,” said Clevenger. “The pattern was stunning.” The quilt is truly stunning with the blue and red stars, and located in the gold background, around those stars are outlines of American eagles.
Tribute chairman Jim Beasley was on hand for the unveiling, and praised the Lakeside Quilters for their commitment to recognizing and honoring veterans. “During the past three years this magnificent team of dedicated women have created a special recognition for our veterans through their hard work,” said Beasley. In addition to the quilts prepared for fund raising for the Tribute project, the Lakeside Quilters have prepared personalized quilts for more than 30 area Purple Heart recipients. The Tribute has raised more than $33,000 through the three quilts the quilters have made for the project to raffle so far.
Tickets for the new quilt, “Bountiful Stars” will be available beginning January 1 at the Tribute’s fourth annual New Year’s Poker Run at the Germantown American Legion. The drawing for the quilt will be held on June 6, 2017. For more information you can contact Jim Beasley at 618-292-4461 or Dr. Dee Boswell at 618- 532-0275.
