KC Trenton Education Center Student Maxwell Gass Takes Advantage of Class Offerings in Trenton

Kaskaskia College student, Maxwell Gass, is taking full advantage of the courses offered at the KC Trenton Education Center while also acting as a student worker.

Maxwell resides in New Baden and is a 2016 graduate of First Baptist Academy. He will be graduating in May with an Associate of Arts Degree.  After graduation from KC he plans to attend a four-year university and to eventually earn a bachelor's degree. He is considering a BA in Marketing & Advertising but is also considering Performance Art Schools.

“I see myself doing something with music in the next five years. I do not know what that will look like, but I see it in some shape or form. I also see myself managing and creating. I am a very creative person, and see myself doing many different things in life other than just music”.

Maxwell says, “I recommend KC to others because it is very affordable, and it is a great way to get your general education out of the way without the typical expense of a four year university. KC gives me peace of mind knowing I will have my general education done and be prepared for a four year university. It is conveniently close to home, and the academic advisers and staff were extremely helpful in selecting the degree program I wanted”.

“I chose to start my education at KC, because of how affordable it is and how guided I felt by the academic advisers. And so far, I've had wonderful teachers. They will most definitely go out of their way for students to help them understand subjects, and best prepare them for exams. They all want to see us succeed rather than pay for college and fail classes”, Maxwell adds.

When asked about people who have made a difference for him while a student at KC, Maxwell says, “Laura Vahlkamp has really impacted my life here at Kaskaskia College. She used to be the director at the Trenton KC Center, but now works at the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE Place) on main campus. She always goes an extra mile for students. Laura Vahlkamp reminds me to always go the extra mile for others and myself. Besides her kindness, she offers friendship to everyone. She always teases students and the same is always returned. She creates an excellent work environment, a mixture of both kindness and friendship”.

“I see a future of me discovering more of myself while I earn a bachelor's degree and beyond. Personally, I have always valued meeting people, building relationships, and challenges. My future involves me making an impact on the world in my own special way just as I believe everyone ought to do”.
