Personal Trainer and Muay-Thai fighter T. J. Boyd will
conduct self-defense classes at the Kaskaskia College main campus this summer
and fall. The summer class will be held
on Monday evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm from July 15 through July 29. This class, PHED 140, is for one credit hour.
For the Fall 2013 semester, Mr. Boyd will be conducting two
separate 3 credit hour classes. One
class will be on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon
beginning on August 19. The other class,
from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturdays, will begin on October 14. Both classes are PHED 140. These classes are appropriate for learners of
all fitness levels.
T.J. Boyd is a native of St. Louis and moved to Carlyle in
1990. Mr. Boyd spent eight years in the
Marine Corps, serving in the Special Forces and deployed to Iraq for three
years and Afghanistan for two years. He
also has trained in the Muay-Thai fighting style and runs a successful personal
training business, Body-by-Boyd/B3/LLC, located at 170 Washington Street in
Carlyle. All classes will be conducted
at this location.
“The world is changing,” Boyd said. “Criminals are becoming bolder, and every
person should know techniques for defending themselves and their property.”
For the summer class, Boyd expects to teach basic personal
defense tips such as recognizing trouble before it happens, fleeing,
negotiating, and self-defense as a last resort.
For the fall classes, he expects to do more comprehensive instruction
including home defense, rights granted by the State of Illinois for defense of
self and property, and much more.
