The Veterans Tribute Committee is pleased to announce a $2,500 donation from the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary Marion Post 1780 in Carlyle. The Post presented the check to Tribute Co-Chairs Jim Beasley, Travis Henson, committee member Dr. Dee Boswell and Kaskaskia College President Dr. Jim Underwood at Kaskaskia College where the Tribute is currently under construction. “We appreciate the support from the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary and their support for the men and women who have served this country so valiantly,” said committee co-chairman Jim Beasley.
The project is being completed in phases. When completed the first phase will feature two 6’ x 70’ walls with mounted black granite plates to accommodate 25,000 names; a sculptured American Eagle with a 10’ wing span mounted at the center of the Warriors Court; mounted seals of the five branches of the military services; American Flags and cherry trees on the perimeter of the Tribute. The concrete has been poured for the plaza and the two walls that will hold the granite name plates are completed. The plates have been ordered as has the base for the eagle and the pylons to hold the service seals. Phase II will consist of additional walls to accommodate a total of 150,000 veterans names and their branches of service. Finally, Phase III will consist of the construction of an educational facility. The center of the Warriors’ Court will contain bricks purchased in honor of friends, family and loved ones.
