About the Program

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is a occupational program beginning only each fall semester, which prepares students for entry-level employment. Graduates are awarded a certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The program includes both classroom work and Diagnostic Medical Sonography clinical education in the areas of physics, abdomen and ob/gyn.

All Diagnostic Medical Sonography applicants must have graduated from a two-year, allied health program or have a bachelor’s degree, and fulfill course prerequisites. All two-year allied health program applicants must show proof of national certification.

This certificate program is administered as a regional program. If you do not reside within the Kaskaskia College district or one of the following community college districts (Southwestern Illinois College, Lake Land College, Lewis and Clark College, Rend Lake College, Lincoln Land Community College, or Southeastern Community College),
you will not be eligible for admission unless there are fewer applicants for the program than space available. Preference is given to Kaskaskia College and joint agreement districts.

The program is a cooperative effort between the regional program and a large number of hospitals in South Central and Southern Illinois.

Employment opportunities exist in hospitals, clinics, mobile companies, and physician offices. Program graduates may have success finding career opportunities throughout the country.
