Check the on-line course regularly. It is the student's responsibility to keep up with the course progress, e-mail, assignments, and tests. Also, you should check the course on the computer often to ensure that assignments are getting through and that they are being posted.

You will need to purchase the textbook, " Sociology” by Jon. M. Shepard from the KC bookstore. There are weekly assignments that are submitted to me under Discussion on the homepage. Check the "Course Schedule" for the due date on the assignments. Please do not send me your assignment via email at bhuels@kaskaskia.edu. Only use this email address for emergency use. All assignments should be sent through Webct.

Grading:

A = 100-90

B = 89-80

C = 79-70

D = 69-60

F 59-0

Mid-Term Paper:

This is due as listed on your course schedule and is worth 100 points. It is a short term paper (6 pages) and will introduce you to sociological research. The paper should be written in APA format. The paper should be double spaced with your references listed on the last page (page 7).

Discussion:

Must respond to at least one learner per week. Response must be positive and educational.

The Final:

The final will be essay and cover all the chapters.

Learning Objectives: The student should be able to describe:

The basic sociological research theories and their weakness
The basic sociological research techniques
The socialization process
The basic institutions with emphasis on the manifest and latent functions
The basic social processes and should be able to use a basic sociological vocabulary to describe everyday life.
