VOLUNTEERISM
VOLT 101

Would you like to earn college credit for activity completed outside the classroom that is fun, free, and personally rewarding?

15 hours of volunteer service equals ½ credit hour and 30 hours of volunteer service equals 1 credit hour. This class may be repeated 4 semesters for either ½ or 1 credit hour.

It’s As Easy As 1-2-3

1. TELL US WHO YOU ARE
Complete the Volunteer and Activity Form.

2. TELL US HOW AND WHO YOU HELPED
Log your volunteer activity on the Volunteer and Activity Form .
There is no cost to sign up and the volunteer activity criteria to qualify is simple:
• It must be unpaid volunteer service.
• It cannot be a service provided for a family member.
• It cannot be a requirement for another class.

3. TELL US WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED FOR THIS SEMESTER
After answering a few simple questions about your volunteer experience, the completed Volunteer and Activity Form should be submitted to the Main Campus or any Education Center.

If you have any questions regarding this class or other volunteer activities at Kaskaskia College, please contact Sandy Cain, KC Volunteer Coordinator at 618-545-3040 or volunteers@kaskaskia.edu.

Whether it is spending a day helping at a senior center, planting trees for a local conservation group, or tutoring a student, we spend a great amount of time helping others. Not for any monetary gain, or recognition, but simply because we like to help others. The Volunteerism 101 course provides you with a “win-win” opportunity. The community will benefit from the many hours of volunteer service rendered by the VOLT 101 course participants. Participants can take pride in knowing that by exhibiting and establishing a spirit of service they are serving as role models for others in the community to emulate. However, in addition to the fun and personal satisfaction generated by the volunteer activity, class participants will also benefit by having the volunteer hours reflected on their KC transcript. These transcript hours can be of great benefit when applying for jobs, seeking advancement in one’s career or pursuing scholarship, and grant opportunities.
