POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Financial Specialist acts as a team leader of Plant Accounting staff on unitization and work orders, responding to inquiries from both inside and outside the department.  Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in the supervision of the Plant Accounting staff including training, assigning and directing the work flow of the staff.
- Act as liaison between IT and the business lines, testing and implementing changes to the PowerPlant project or asset system.
- Administer corporate work order policy, including proper charge accounts and approvals.
- Responsible for AFUDC (Capitalized Interest), IOH (Capitalized Overheads), and In Service monthly journal entry processing.
- Assist with accumulating and analyzing data to respond to auditors, management, regulatory, business lines and others.
- Control costs, increase productivity and at all times, safeguard the Company's assets.
- Mentor and instruct Plant Accounting staff on correct corporate policies and the PowerPlant system processes.
- Review and approve monthly journal entries and retirement estimates prepared by plant accountants.
- Assist in the balancing and maintaining of controls between PowerPlant and the General Ledger.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from an accredited college or university required. CPA required. Masters degree preferred.
One or more years of accounting experience with a thorough knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and classifications of accounts required.
Other
Strong analytical skills are required, including the ability to identify, analyze and research financial issues.
Strong oral communication and writing skills are required.
 Must be able to exercise judgment and work independently.
Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
Must possess good leadership and human relations skills.
