What is TRIO SSS?
The Kaskaskia College TRiO/Student Support Services program is a federal grant program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. TRiO is one of a group of programs established by Congress under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to help students overcome financial, social, and cultural barriers to higher education.
Student Support Services is one of eight different programs under the TRiO umbrella. SSS is designed to increase the graduation, retention, and transfer rate of eligible students by providing support services tailored to the needs of program participants.
Who is eligible for the SSS program?
To qualify for consideration KC students must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
Students must also meet at least one of the following guidelines:
- Be a first generation college student (which means that neither parent has a four-year college degree)
- Meet income guidelines as outlined by the U.S. Department of Education
- Have a verifiable physical or learning disability
How Does TRiO work?
All TRiO services are provided at no additional charge to qualifying students. The TRiO program, offered at the main campus, provides opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their post-secondary education.
What is the purpose of the TRiO program?
The purpose of the program is to help students increase their grade point average, stay enrolled in college classes, and complete their chosen certificate or degree program.
What services are available through the TRiO program?
Some of the services available include:
Financial literacy—guidance on types of financial aid, budgeting, and assistance with FAFSA completion
Assistance with transfer to a four-year institution
Referral to important services on campus and in the community
How do I apply to the TRiO Program?
1. Download and complete the Yes@KC program worksheet provided on this website to find out if you are eligible for the Yes@KC program.
2. If you meet the eligibility guidelines specified on the worksheet, download, complete, and sign the Yes@KC Application form from this website.
3. Return your completed application to:

How will I find out if I have been accepted in the program?
All applicants will receive a letter acknowledging the receipt of their application. The student will also be notified of the results of the Selection Committee’s review of the application materials by letter. The application review process should take no more than 30 days.
How will the TRiO program affect my financial aid?
The TRiO program is not affiliated with the financial aid department at KC. However, TRiO/SSS works closely with the financial aid staff to ensure that students receive help navigating the financial aid process and assists students with scholarship applications.
