SUMMARY: Conducts daily preventative maintenance, troubleshoots and repairs to all heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electrical and general maintenance in the hospital and nursing home environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Include, but are not limited to, the following:
Functions within all policies, procedures, rules and regulations applicable to the organization.
Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and install all types of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Set up and operate machine tools while following all safety guidelines
Performs duties in the fields of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and hvac
Knowledge of test equipment in all fields
Will assist in snow and ice removal from sidewalks and parking lots
Will be subject to on-call rotation
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma,
Technical training in heating, air conditioning, refrigeration and associated systems.  (exception may be made for years of experience)
Ability to read and comprehend instructions.  Ability to write.  Ability to respond appropriately to inquiries or complaints.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.  Ability to apply common sense and respond to instructions, written or oral. 
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Read and understand schematic drawings, blueprints, operating and equipment manuals
Work with limited supervision by prioritizing and completing tasks in a timely manner
Apply current standards and codes to daily tasks
Communicates effectively and appropriately.
Interacts appropriately with others
Valid EPA Refrigeration Certification
Valid Illinois driver’s license
HVAC certification

Ability to see and hear or use aids to adequately meet the requirements of the position. Perform tasks by safely squatting, stooping, bending and reaching frequently. Must be able to push, pull and lift objects of 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and up to 100 lbs. as needed. 
Ability to safely climb ladders up to 20 feet and perform work. Must be in good general health to have the ability to stand and or walk for long periods.

While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly exposed to the elements during all seasons the greatest amount of tasks will also be performed inside a controlled environment. Some tasks are required to be performed in tight uncomfortable spaces. 
At times will interact with patients and their families, staff and regulatory agencies. May at times come in contact with hostile patients, family members or others?  Must wear personal protective equipment on a regular basis to avoid exposures including but not limited TB, Hepatitis and Aids.

ATTENDANCE Promptly arrives for the designated shift.  Follows all applicable policies regarding schedules, attendance and organizational requirements.
SAFETY Understands and uses safe practices at all times.  Reports all unsafe conditions to the appropriate manager immediately.  Assures all equipment functions properly before use.  Knows and adheres to all safety and fire prevention rules and regulations. 
Knows location and use of personal protective equipment, fire plan, MSDS, Disaster Plan, and Exposure Control Plan.
