Scholarship Name: Illinois Community College State Farm Insurance Teacher Education Scholarship

The following criteria are established for the awards:

· The applicant must be a high school graduate or have an equivalent G.E.D. certificate from an approved program, as determined by the Illinois Community College System Foundation (ICCSF)

· An applicant should have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale from an approved high school or G.E.D. program

· A successful applicant must be enrolled full-time (12 hours minimum) each semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA in college to be eligible for continuing awards in the second, third, and fourth semesters

· Applicants must submit a letter stating their reason for requesting scholarship, their career plans after college graduation, and their philosophy of education

· Applicants must submit names, addresses, and telephone numbers of two references who are thoroughly familiar with their life history and performance in school, work, and community.  One of these references must be from the applicant’s high school or G.E.D. program and one must be from the college where application is being made

· Successful applicants must be enrolled in an approved course of study that leads to admission to a teacher education program or an Associate in Teacher education program at an Illinois Community College, leading to transfer to an approved university offering a baccalaureate degree in teacher education 

· The number and amount of the awards will be decided by the Illinois Community College Board of Directors at a later date and will be credited to the recipient’s account to be used for tuition, fees, and books and other resource materials related to classroom instruction

· Individuals selected for this scholarship will be recommended by the community college where they are attending, and the college will recommend them to the Illinois Community College System Foundation

· Students must be enrolled full-time, and it is expected that the scholarship funds will be expended only for education-related expenses, including tuition, books, fees, and other directly related educational costs

· All awardees of this scholarship must remain enrolled in a teacher education program leading to a teaching certificate in Illinois, and they must seek employment in an Illinois school system with a high concentration of minority, low income students
