Sports & Wellness Complex
The College is dedicated to ensuring the citizens of our district a collegiate
presentation of its buildings and grounds as well as providing outstanding
athletic and intramural programs. One of the College’s major initiatives is to
provide a wellness program for all students, staff, faculty, and the
community. The sport and wellness complex will provide the first stages towards
those programs.
Programs that will benefit from this facility will include physical education
classes for both credit and non-credit, recruitment opportunities through camps
for children and teens, public and private athletic events, and state of the art
training facility. Phase I was completed in the spring of 2007. This included
the construction of the restrooms and concession building, baseball field
modifications, construction of a softball field north of the baseball field,
and the construction of a commons area to include a service drive and pedestrian
sidewalks.
Phase I of the complex has been completed, with the installation of site
lighting along the commons drive and bollard lighting leading to the restrooms
and concession building, which was completed in fall 08.
An NCAA-regulation-sized soccer field was constructed that will further enhance
and diversify the offerings and opportunities available through the Sports and
Wellness Complex. It has a score board and a wireless public address system.
Phase II of the complex include construction of locker/dressing room
facilities, conference room, office space, and a multi-purpose room that will
contain a storage area and batting cages. Additional outdoor improvements
include additional parking at the south end of the west parking lot, basketball
goals, field lighting, putting green, tennis courts, soccer field and a walking
track, and additional entrance leading from the Shattuc Road to the West Parking Lot.
Phase III of the Complex was developed and includes an expanded fitness
center. The 10,000 square foot fitness facility was recommended as
Phase III of the College’s current Sports & Wellness Complex Project and is
currently
constructed in the area of the gymnasium. The completed project will consist of
a new concession and restroom area, new softball field, renovated baseball
field, spectator seating, press boxes, accessible parking, a lighted commons
area, locker rooms and indoor hitting facility, lighting for baseball & softball
fields, a soccer field, four tennis courts, and an outdoor walking track. The
addition of the fitness facility to the Sports & Wellness Project plans will
enhance the wellness component. This addition will also boost campaign efforts
by opening additional doors for grant funding opportunities and widen donor
base.
When complete, the Sports and Wellness Complex will make a positive and
professional reflection showing that Kaskaskia College is an institution
of higher learning that cares about quality facilities as it serves its
students and the residents of our district.
