Students applying for admission to the Nursing Program at Kaskaskia College for the Spring 2015 semester will be using a new admission process.
The new admission process will use test results attained on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS® test) as the basis for admission to the Nursing Program. The test was created by ATI Nursing Education, which is part of Ascend Learning and is currently being used by 2,100 colleges and universities across the country to provide technology-based assessment solutions for healthcare education.
Though the fall 2014 Nursing Program admission process remains unchanged, beginning June 1, 2014 students will be required to take the TEAS® test as part of the admission process. While students can register to take the TEAS® test on the ATI website, the College will be offering a TEAS® Test Preparation course for program applicants that would like to “refresh” their academic skills before testing.
Areas of review will include reading comprehension, English, mathematics, basic science, and technical reasoning as they apply in healthcare. Other topics related to successful test taking, such as managing test anxiety and discovering learning styles are also covered.
The first TEAS® Test Preparation course will be held on the main campus in the Professional Careers Building, Room 123, from 9:30 to 4:30 on Saturdays beginning June 7 and ending on June 28, 2014. The cost of the test preparation course will be $238. The textbook is available in the KC Bookstore for $59.00.
There will be an additional charge for the TEAS® Test that will be collected by ATI during the online test registration process. After registering on the ATI website and receiving a test authorization code, students are welcome to take the TEAS® test in a computer lab on the main campus on Saturday, July12, 2014.
A representative from the College will be on site to proctor the test as required by the test provider. Additionally, test scores will be available to students and the KC Nursing Program Test Administrator immediately after testing.
