Sophomore shortstop Rachael Conley of New Baden will be taking her talents on the softball field next year to the University of Montevallo located in Montevallo, Alabama.
Conley is a 2012 graduate of Wesclin High School and was the starting shortstop for the Blue Angels her freshman and sophomores years. As a freshman, Rachael batted .354 and was named the Offensive Player of the Year.
In her sophomore season, Conley hit .425 with an on-base-percentage of .527 and slugging percentage of .792 which were both the top 50 in the Nation. She finished the season with 12 homeruns and 48 RBI’s.
Coach Torey Crowell says of Conley, “Rachael is an aggressive player and she makes things happen on the field. She is a true leader on the field and off the field who will be missed next year.”
University of Montevallo Head Softball Coach, Lindsay Vanover says, “Words cannot express how excited I am about the group of girls we are signing to the first ever Montevallo softball team. This is a very talented group in every aspect of the game, and I can't wait to see them on the field together. We've got a nice mix of athletes from different parts of the country, and the fact that they committing to the University of Montevallo is a testament to this University, this city, and the amazing people that call Montevallo home. I'm grateful for the opportunity to put softball on the map at Montevallo and look forward to building a nationally relevant program that the university and community can be proud of. I look forward to Rachael bringing in her previous college playing experience from Kaskaskia College and stepping up to be an immediate leader on the field here at Montevallo. Her competitive nature will definitely be good for the younger girls to play alongside. She has such an athletic stature that she will be a threat in our lineup both offensively and defensively. She's truly a playmaker, but also could be a game changer here in the Peach Belt.”
Conley will major in Biology. She is the daughter of Mitch and Leslie Conley.
