Kaskaskia College’s “The Reading Link” is in need of volunteer tutors. “The Reading Link” is holding formal training free of charge for volunteers who are interested in sharing their abilities to assist others in improving their skills. Volunteers assist adult learners who are 17 years of age or older, in reading, writing, basic math, and learning Basic English Skills.
Anyone can volunteer who has a genuine concern for others, an ability to learn and an ability to read well. Tutoring can be part of a challenging and rewarding experience. Our volunteers tutor learners for a minimum of two hours per week.
After volunteers finish the training, tutors meet on a regular basis with an individual from their own community in a public place such as a church, school, public library, or other area that is convenient to the tutor and to the learner.
Free Volunteer Tutor Training dates include Wednesday, May 14 at the Nashville Education Center; Monday, May 19 at the Trenton Education Center; Tuesday, May 20 at the KC Workforce Center; Wednesday, May 21at the Salem Education Center; Thursday, May 22 at the Greenville Education Center; Tuesday, May 27 at the KC Main Campus; and Thursday, May 29 at the Trenton Education Center.
Session II is also required and will be held Saturday, May 31 at the KC Main Campus from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
To register for the next training, please call “The Reading Link” at Kaskaskia College at 1-800-642-0859, ext. 3119 or 545-3119.
By working together, we can make a positive change in the lives of others and in the community!
