The Steering Committee for the Nashville Education Center Campaign
held its regular monthly meeting at Kretzer’s Restaurant in Hoyleton on
Wednesday, April 30.
The committee is tasked with the design and fundraising for
the new Nashville Education Center to be constructed on Highway 127 north of
Nashville. The 12,000 square foot
building will replace the existing Center which operates in 3,500 feet of
leased space at 450 North Kaskaskia in Nashville. The committee is co-chaired by Brian Heckert
of Financial Solutions Midwest LLC and Sheila Burcham, CEO of the Community
The cost of the new Center is $3,055,000, of which
$1,770,000 comes from extended bonds, leaving $1,285,000 to be raised in
private donations. To date, $514,538 has
been raised, leaving a balance of $770,462.
It was reported that $37,470 has been raised since the last monthly
meeting in March.
The committee reported on their efforts over the last month
and brainstormed ideas for continued fundraising, including ideas for more
promotional events to take place over the next few months.
A part of each meeting is devoted to a report on design
elements of the new space. This month,
Steve Groner, Director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for KC
spoke of the three Business Incubator Offices to be included in the new space.
Groner outlined the procedure for beginning businesses to be
considered for one of the offices, and the criteria for eligibility to occupy
the space. He also spoke of the many
benefits the occupants receive beyond the office amenities of a phone,
computer, internet service, etc.., including the assistance from the staff of
the Education Center, access to conference rooms and classrooms for meetings
and gatherings, and the ongoing assistance from the SBDC in securing loans and
overcoming many of the hurdles that beginning small business face.
