03/28/2018

The Kaskaskia College Agriculture Department held its 14th annual banquet and auction in the Lifelong Learning Center on the main campus on Thursday, March 22nd.  Student awards and achievements were highlighted along with a silent and oral auction of donated items.

Ag professors Aaron Heinzmann and Bill Waggoner shared the microphone in announcing the 2018 awards. The students took part in a number of extracurricular activities including the PAS (Post Secondary Agriculture) Fall Conference in Bloomington and the PAS Spring Conference in Springfield. Twenty of the students also attended the National PAS Conference in Louisville, KY.

Students from the college also participated in a number of judging activities including: the Dairy Judging Contest in Fort Worth, TX; the All American Dairy Show in Harrisburg, PA; the North American International Livestock Expo in Louisville, KY; and World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI.

The Ag Club also honored the Fayette County Farm Bureau with their Outstanding Service Award for their outstanding contributions and partnership at the Brownstown Research Station in support of the KC Agriculture program.

Awards that were presented were:  Lauren Robinson (Mulberry Grove) and Haley Gregson (Waterloo) - Outstanding Students in Applied Science; Kade Gambill (Sandoval) and Rebekah Donoho (Bluford) - Outstanding Students in Ag Science; Kaleb Kruse (Dyersville, IA) - Outstanding Dairy Judge.

Professor Waggoner told the crowd how enjoyable it is to hold the annual dinner banquet and auction to support our student activities.  He said, “This event is like a family reunion for the local agricultural industry. I am always amazed how the students pull it all together at the end to make this such a successful event each year, and the group this year did a fabulous job”.

Professor Heinzmann adds, “I would like to thank all of the donors, buyers, and community for their continued backing of our program.  In addition, I would like to thank the KC Board of Trustees and Administration for continuing their support of our program.”

The banquet was attended by approximately 300 people and raised over $11,000 for the KC Ag Club.
