The Kaskaskia College men and women cross country teams competed in the NJCAA Region 24 cross country meet on October 24 on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
The woman’s race was easily won by the national ranked Danville College Lady Jaguars with a team score of 29. In a closely contested race for second place the Rend Lake Lady Warriors were able to nip the KC Blue Angels by one point, 62 to 63. Laura Pick, of Nashville, lead the Angels with a 10th place finish, next in line for KC were Emily Waldhoff and Julie Waldhoff both of Teutopolis in 15th and 18th place, the number 4 counter was Brittany Goff of Salem in 19th place. The final counter was Emma Baker of Neoga in 20th.
The men’s race was won by Illinois Central College of Peoria. The ICC team put together a great team race with a score of 39 points. The battle for second was won by Lincoln College with 50 points followed closely by the Blue Devils with 59 points. The Blue Devils were led by Elliott Brinkmeyer of Salem with a 5th place finish, also finishing in the top ten was AJ Abert of Alhambra, with the 9th spot. The number 3 runner was Salem graduate Jacob Heser in 12th. The next two counters from KC was Paul Jansen of Daimonville and Jesse Miller of Teutopolis with 18th and 19th finishes.
KC’s Laura Pick was honored by being named to the 2nd team All Region 24 with her 10th place finish. The Blue Devils had two members make All Region 24 team with Elliot Brinkmeyer making first team All-Region 24 with his 5th place finish and AJ Abert was second team with his 9th place finish.
The NJCAA National meet will be held November 9th in Fort Dodge, IA.
