Trenton Education Center Steering Committee Meets

The Kaskaskia College Trenton Steering Committee met in its regular monthly session on Thursday, August 29 at the Trenton House Restaurant.  The committee has been tasked with the site selection, fundraising, and design of an expanded Trenton Education center facility.  It is chaired by the Trenton Sun’s Mike Conley.

With the site selection and design tasks completed, the committee has been focused on raising the necessary funds to ensure timely completion of the project, construction of which is underway and expected to be completed in the spring of 2014.  As of the meeting date, it was reported that additional funds of $74, 574 are needed to bring the project to completion.

The Trenton Education Center has been in existence for a number of years in a small space of 3,800 square feet within a building owned by the City of Trenton.  The donation of the entire building to the College to house the Center, generously made possible by the Trenton City Council, will allow for the expansion out to nearly 16,000 square feet of instructional, laboratory, and business development space.

Members of the committee reported on further fundraising efforts that are underway, including a cash raffle, a Trivia Night planned for December 7 at the Aviston American Legion hall, and the sales of brick pavers.  The pavers, 4” by 8” or 8” by 8” and inscribed with a message of the donor’s choice, can be purchased for $150 or $300 respectively.  These pavers will ultimately be placed as part of the new entrance to the expanded Center.

The committee has rented a booth at the upcoming Trentonfest to spread information about how an expanded Trenton Education Center is a very positive development for the residents of Western Clinton County and to sell cash raffle tickets and brick pavers, as well as accept donations from citizens who wish to support higher education and the economic good that expanded educational opportunities will provide.
