KASKASKIA COLLEGE INTERNATIONAL TRADE ADVISOR RECEIVES RECOGITION BY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION
Elizabeth Ahern, Kaskaskia College’s International Trade Consultant was recently awarded CGBP (Certified Global Business Professional) status by the National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators (NASBITE). Kaskaskia College’s commitments to regional economic development and also to lifelong learning are well represented in Ms. Ahern’s accomplishment. Illinois Small Business Development Centers (ISBDC) began to join the groundswell of world trade as a result of the State’s initiative to double Illinois exports by 2014. Kaskaskia College is one of only a few community colleges awarded this prestigious program.
NASBITE International was organized in the early 1980’s when a strong movement began to place international trade education into a more prominent position within colleges, universities, and various public service institutions. In1992, NASBITE embarked on a mission to develop credentials that; a) raised the level of professional advising, b) set professional standards and c) showcased competency. Candidates receiving this designation have demonstrated significant skills in global commerce. To receive the NASBITE CGBP designation, a candidate must pass a comprehensive exam in addition to meeting other criteria. Scores are based strictly on the number of test questions answered correctly. The CGBP credential helps assure understanding on a broad range of trade matters rather than knowledge of a narrow specialty.
The International Trade Center (ITC) at Kaskaskia College recently hosted a well-attended Salem workshop that focused on the language of world trade. Previous sessions have dealt with understanding the cultures and customs of other countries. Diverse programs continue to be offered throughout the region, along with individualized export assistance. Information can be obtained by contacting the email@example.com or by calling 618-545-3260. The ITC is partially funded by the SBA, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and Kaskaskia College www.kaskaskia.edu/ISBDC as a world class service to area businesses.
