Kaskaskia College Announces Summer Kick Programming at Trenton Education Center

The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College would like to announce the schedule for KICK classes to be held during the summer semester at the Trenton Education Center.  All Trenton KICK classes with be held at 9 West Broadway in Trenton (across from Trenton City Hall).
 
Learning About Ocean Life - Oceanography was never this cool!  Journey under the sea as we dive into an eye-opening experience of the ocean.  The instructor will teach you about all of the many wild and wonderful creatures in the ocean.  This class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and 12 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  The class is for students in kindergarten through fifth grades and the cost to attend is  $25.00.   The registration number is CKICK 5293 TR01D.
 
Arts and Crafts for Kids - A variety of fun and creative artistic projects will be the focus of this course. Some of the items that may be made are beads and bracelets, picture frames, mosaics, candles, soap and jewelry boxes. Bring creativity and you will have some fun! This class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and 12 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.  The cost to attend is $30.00 and the registration number is CKICK 5278 TR01D.
 
Reading for Kids - The reading unit will focus on different types of book genres.  Each book we look at will be accompanied by a lesson plan in each subject area to get students to understand that there is more to a book than just reading words: math, social studies, science, language arts, and art. Comprehension and vocabulary will be discussed, and students will explore how to read with expression through storytelling lessons.  This class will be held Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The class is for students in grades 2 -5 and the cost to attend is $20.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5217 TR01D.
 
Study Skills - Your success in school is dependent on your ability to study effectively.  Start by taking a look at your own learning style and study preferences.  Class will discuss time management, active listening and reading skills.  Note taking and organization will also be included.  Learn and practice memorization techniques that will make studying easier and give you an academic advantage.  This class will be held Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.  The class is for students in grades 5 – 8 and the cost to attend is $20.00.  The registration number for the class is COED 5452 TR01D.
 
Learning About Dinosaurs - Join us for this unique, prehistoric learning adventure that allows kids the opportunity to explore the world of dinosaurs, fossil sand minerals. The instructor will take you through an exciting adventure of prehistoric time.  This class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18 and 19 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  The class is for students in kindergarten through fourth grades and the cost for this course is $25.00. Computers for Children - This class offers basic instructions and tips on improving computer skills. Students will learn how to produce great papers and presentations using MS word. They will receive instruction on PowerPoint and Excel.  The class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18 and 19 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.  The class is for students in grades 3 -5 and the cost for this course is $20.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5285 TR01D.
 
Its a Bug Life - Are insects driving you buggy? Scientists say that, at any given time, about 10 quintillion insects inhabit Earth. Why not take some time, as summer days -- and swarms of insects descend upon us -- to learn about these tiny animals.  The class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 25 and 26 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  The class is for students in kindergarten through 2nd grades and the cost to attend is $25.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5306 TR01D.
 
Math for Kids - Decimals and Division are only a fraction of the fun that we will have in this class. This class will focus on skills and strategies to help students reach their potential in Math. This class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 25 and 26 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  This class is for students in grades 4 – 8 and the cost is $20.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5315 TR01D.
 
Storytelling - Each day students will explore a great children's books with fun and exciting activities.  This interactive class may include creative dramatics, puppetry, music, movement and crafts.   The class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 25 and 26 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.  The class is for students in kindergarten through 4th grades and the cost to attend is $25.00.     The registration number is CKICK 5277 TR01D.
