The Kaskaskia College Office of Assessment and Strategic Initiatives polled graduates in the career, technical and allied health programs for the Fall 2011, Spring 2012, and Summer 2012 semesters in a recent employment survey. The results show that most graduates of the College’s career, tech, and allied health programs are able to find local employment in their field of study.
The survey shows that 90% of job-seeking graduates are employed, and of employed graduates, 79% are full-time employees and 80% are employed in a field related to their studies. Nor did most graduates need to travel far for employment. 83% of employed grads reported holding jobs within the College District, with 90% of those within 50 miles of KC’s main campus in Centralia. 97% of those employed reported working within Illinois.
In addition to the employment numbers, the survey showed that the Kaskaskia College graduates who were employed in their field of study felt overwhelmingly that they were well prepared for work, with 90% positive results. Many reported jobs in the healthcare industry, including local hospitals and nursing facilities. Others reported employment within their fields at area school districts, construction and trucking companies, and beauty salons.
“I got exactly the type of education I was looking for at KC. The college has a great mixture of course study combined with hands on work to help prepare for real world jobs. The instructors are there to provide the assistance that you need and understand,” said Travis Hemann, a graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Drafting.
“Going to Kaskaskia College gave me the chance to earn a degree for less money and gave me the ability to stay at home and save money while doing so. I got a job right after graduation with no problem,” said Garyelle Hays, a graduate of the Physical Therapy Assisting program.
“I was completely satisfied and overjoyed by the instructors and the depth of the course study. I felt very prepared for being on my own. I also feel confident in what I was taught,” reported Michelle Hyslop, who earned her certificate in the Cosmetology program.
Harold Cain, a graduate of the KC Truck Driver program, summed it up. “Kaskaskia College offered me the knowledge, training, and hands-on skills necessary to succeed in my field of study. Within days of graduation I was offered full time employment, with benefits. I am well beyond the pace to double, and will soon triple, my yearly income from a dead end factory job. Thanks Kaskaskia! Your program is proving to be the best investment I have made for myself.”
These comments are among the many made by the surveyed graduates that clearly show that Kaskaskia College not only offers unsurpassed quality in its career and technical programs, its low cost and career placement rates make it, as Harold Cain said, one of the best ways to invest in yourself.
