As Kaskaskia College continues to respond to the industrial needs of its district, it is pleased to announce that the Illinois Community College Board has recently approved an Associate of Applied Science degree in Construction Project Management. Classes for this two-year degree program are slated to begin in the Fall 2013 semester. Classes are tentatively scheduled to meet on Fridays only, for approximately eight hours. Professor Steve Mandrell will head up the program.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ “Occupational Outlook Handbook 2012-2013,” the Construction Management field is expected to grow by 17% between 2010 and 2020. The median salary for Construction Managers is currently $40.32 per hour, or $83,860 per year.
“We are extremely pleased to be offering a Construction Management degree in conjunction with our Construction Technology degree program,” said George Evans, KC’s Dean of Career and Technical programs. “We are also working with SIU [Southern Illinois University in Carbondale] on a 2+2 articulation program that will enable our Construction Management graduates an easy option for transfer to SIU for their Bachelor’s degree in this field.”
Applicants need not have prior construction experience because some of the classes will be in construction technology, according to Professor Mandrell, but prior experience would be helpful.
