The Kaskaskia College Cosmetology department is announcing that Nail Technology classes will begin soon. The classes will start on March 18 and conclude on July 26. Classes will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Financial aid is available to those who qualify.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in its “Occupational Outlook Handbook 2012-2013” (OOH), expects the occupation of Nail Technologist, commonly known as manicurist and pedicurist, to grow by 18% between 2008-2018, a growth rate that is faster than average for all occupations. Most of these positions will be in privately owned spas and clinics. NailPro magazine published a survey in its 2010-2011 edition in which nail techs reported weekly incomes that averaged over $480, with over 22% earning more than $600 per week.
“We’ve recently seen an exploding demand for qualified, professional Nail Technicians,” said KC Nail Technology Professor Kelli Malone. “We graduate highly skilled, proficient individuals. Our program focuses on education, as well as developing that professional image that salons are looking for. Salon owners from inside and outside of our district contact us often requesting a skilled Nail Tech professional. Graduates have many options when choosing which salon and area of the community that they wish to work.”
