Respiratory Specialties (RESP-214)

Description: This course will introduce the student to the specialization topics of assessment of sleep and breathing disorders. The student will learn the basic principles of sleep physiology, manifestations of sleep disorders and will receive an overview of the procedures to perform sleep and breathing disorder tests. Topics of respiratory home care, pulmonary rehabilitation and nutrition for the cardiopulmonary patient will also be covered as well as the techniques, procedures and equipment that pertain to home care and rehabilitation of the patient. Electrocardiogram testing will be discussed with the information necessary to assess, interpret and treat life-threatening arrhythmias. Cardiopulmonary exercise stress testing will also be introduced. Prerequisite: Completion of third semester RESP courses.
