Short stem, flat, simple, long and narrow, greater than 4 times as long as wide, 0.25" - 0.50" wide, all teeth same size, all side veins same length.

Fruit:

In small capsule with floss and no disk at base.

Twig:
|
Red-brown to somewhat gray, even a bit purple at times, hairless and often shiny; multiple terminal buds are red-brown, small, rounded (globose) and hairless.

Bark:
|
Rough and gray, marked by long, branching ridges, resulting in deep furrows.
