1.      The medical profession in the United States enjoys a lofty position on the stratification structure. Compare the functionalist and conflict explanations for this fact.

2.      Members of the lower class in American society have a higher incidence of mental illness than is documented on other social classed. Evaluate the various explanations for this phenomenon.
