Dottie Smith

Kaskaskia College’s #1 Fan from 1966-1977. Dottie Smith was the dedicated wife of KC Coach Larry Smith, and was a dedicated advocate of the baseball and basketball teams during her husband’s distinguished coaching career at Kaskaskia, spanning thirty-six years. During this time, she rarely missed a game at home or on the road. As an athlete in her own right, she played Tennis and Women’s Basketball at Blackburn College.
A integral supporter of Kaskaskia College Athletics, devoted to the well being of student athletes, she fixed meals for the baseball team to take with them to away games and always provided healthy snacks like oranges and treats like Hershey bars for both home and away games. As a mother figure to the students while away from home, she laundered their uniforms with care so that the teams would always represent Kaskaskia College with a spotless image.
In 1977, Dottie Smith chose to return to a teaching career at Willow Grove Grade School in Centralia, Illinois; positively influencing the lives of other children in the community. Her legacy to Kaskaskia College and the community was her exemplary enthusiasm, dedication and caring nature.
