Team awards:
Dairy Specialist - 1st and 2nd place teams (8th consecutive year as State Champions)
Landscape Horticulture Specialist - 1st place
Agriculture Computers Specialist - 1st place (3rd consecutive year as State Champions)

Fall 2009
Speech Team
KC Speech Team received a 3rd place win this weekend at Illinois Central College in Peoria in the category of Dramatic Duo Interpretation.

Kimberly Hardy and Matthew Horst placed 3rd out of 14 with their piece entitled "Sales Girl". Matthew Horst and Nathan Slininger placed 7th in Duo as well with their piece "Ho, Ho, Ho".

Last year, the team won 4th and 6th in Dramatic Duo so we placed higher this year which is extremely exciting. Please wish the team luck as they compete in December at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL.

Speech Team members include Kim Hardy, Matt Horst, Mollie McGraw, Greg Williams, Katherine Bolin, Amber Edler, Robert Slater and Nathan Slininger.

September 2009
Collegiate FFA
The KC Dairy Judging team had an awesome day at the All-American Dairy Show in Harrisburg, PA. Our team finished 3rd in the contest overall against some very strong teams from across the country. We finished 2nd in two breed categories, and 3rd in three others. Congratulations to Seth Sickmeyer who finished 4th in Brown Swiss, and 2nd in Holsteins (missed winning the breed by 1 point), and 7th overall; Nick Harre finished 2nd in Guernseys and 1st in Jerseys on his way to a 4th place overall individual finish. It was an extremely competitive contest and prepared us well for our next challenge. The KC team will return to competition on Monday at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI.

Kaskaskia College Dairy Judging Team Finishes 8th at World Dairy Expo

The KC Team consisted of Kurt Thole (Carlyle), Debbie Mondt (Aviston), Elisabeth Siddell (Carlyle), and Chris Kollmann (New Baden).

Kaskaskia College Soccer Players Receive Honors
Kaskaskia College is proud to announce that two soccer players, Ansley Murphy of Mt. Vernon and Sara Lambird of Trenton were recently honored by being named to the Region 24 Honorable Mention Team. Ansley Murphy, a freshman mid-fielder, was team co-captain this year and scored 3 goals with 2 assists. Sara Lambird, another freshman mid-fielder was also named team Co-Captain, and scored 2 goals with 2 assists.

Speech Team
Four members of the Speech Team made it to the final round in the Duo acting competition at Illinois Central College in East Peoria:
Matthew Horst and Carlie Pietsch, 4th place honors
Greg Williams and Mollie McGraw, 6th place honors

2008 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees
Mary Ann Bohbrink, former KC coach of the first women's basketball, softball, and volleyball teams;
the 1963-1964 KC Blue Devil basketball team;
Dr. Shelvy Haywood Keglar, former Blue Devil basketball player;
Craig Freels, former Blue Devil tennis player;
Bill Niepoetter, retired sports reporter.

August 2008
Women's Golf Team, "Academic All-American Team" by the National Junior College Athletic Association. The team finished second in the nation in grade point average with a 3.65.
The 2007-2008 team coached by Jay Garrett, was made up of the following players:
Tiffany Blumhorst of Addieville;
Kayla Barkau of Okawville;
Allie May of Nashville; and
Chelsey Swartzlander of Centralia.

Academic All-American Teams for 2008-2009
Women's Golf and Volleyball Team and Baseball Team
All-American for having a GPA of 3.8 or higher. These Players Include:
  • Women's Volleyball Player Tara Weber (Newton);
  • Softball Players Whitney Voss (Breese), Jamie Corbier (O'Fallon), and Bethany Jones (O'Fallon);
  • Women's Golf Player Tiffany Blumhorst (Addieville);
  • Baseball players Nathan Forer (Canada), Jason Sullivan (Shelbyville) and Jared Fisher (Okawville).

Five students were named Academic All Americans for having a GPA of 3.6. These students include:
  • Men's golfer Deric Blaha (Freeburg);
  • Softball players Kelsey Stolte (St. Elmo), and Nikki Aldrich (Robinson);
  • Basketball player John Fischer (Salem);
  • Baseball player Tyler Graham (Canada).

  • the Dr. Mary Anne Player Appreciation Award for co-hosting the June 2007 Regional Convention.

Advisor, Susie Wurth, has been appointed to the Phi Theta Kappa Illinois Advisory Council

Kaskaskia College GED Student Bernice Husher, named Outstanding Literacy Student by Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White and David Bennett, Executive Directory of the Illinois Press Association. Husher has received the Spotlight on Achievement Award. May, 2008.

April 2008
Student Blake Welge of Carlyle was recognized as the 2007-2008 Outstanding Agriculture Student in Agriculture Business Production and Dairy Science.

Student Jill Ripperda was recognized as the 2007-2008 Outstanding Agriculture Student in Agriculture Science.

Kaskaskia College Agriculture Students Participate in National Postsecondary Agricultural Conference

Kaskaskia College Cheerleaders competed in their first ever competition at the Joliet Junior College Cheerleading Invitational and took first place honors in the co-ed division, April 2008.

KC Agriculture Students Elected to State Board
Casey Braddock of Patoka and Michael Thomas of Centralia were recently elected to the offices of President and Vice President at the Illinois Postsecondary Agriculture Students (IL PAS) Annual Conference.

Kaskaskia College Agriculture Students Participate In Illinois Postsecondary Agriculture Fall Conference, at Spoon River College in Canton, IL
The KC Team received a 2nd place in Floriculture, 3rd Overall in Livestock, and 10th in Crop Specialist.
Student Jason Mewes placed 2nd as an Individual in Floriculture.
Kyle Hempen placing 3rd in Swine Specialist.

KC Dairy Judging Team
North American International Livestock Expo, Louisville, Kentucky, NAILE Dairy Judging Contest. The KC Team judged 10 classes and gave 4 sets of reasons.
Individual results include:
  • Erin Salger Red Bud, 6th Place in Jerseys and 10th place in Holsteins
  • Mandy Middleton, New Douglas, 1st place in Brown Swiss and Holsteins
  • Jessy Shomaker, Trenton, 7th place in Brown Swis, 9th place in Holsteins
Overall individual competition:
  • Showmaker placed 8th
  • Middleton placed 10th
  • Salger placed 17th
  • Middleton placed 12th
Teams resulted were KC 5th in Guernseys:
  • 4th in Jerseys

Kaskaskia College Dairy Judging Team Competes at World Dairy Expo
Mandy Middleton - 6th in Holsteins, 9th in Milking Shorthorns, and 10th in Jerseys.
Jessy Schomaker - 4th in Jerseys, 7th in Red & White Holsteins, 12th Individual Overall.
The KC Team finished 5th in Jerseys, 10th High Team Overall, 10th in Reasons Overall.

Travis Henson of Salem was recognized by the KC Agriculture Program for his contributions to the Ag Club for the past year. Henson is the Director of Marketing for Kaskaskia College.

Kaskaskia College PTK, August 2007
KC PTK received a 5 Star Designation at PTK Regional Convention, the highest honor for chapter participation.

Susie Wurth was presented the Horizon Award at PTK Regional Convention for outstanding services rendered at local and state level.

Ashley Nichols of Centralia received Honorable Mention for Outstanding Member. Marcos Carpezo of Nashville received Honorable Mention too for Outstanding Officer.
